New to the site, but I've been watching MANY videos and reading a ton! I had gotten to the point where I'd given up on CPAP. BUT.....I've decided to take my CPAP into my own hands. I've been very discouraged with my doc and actually quit going about a year ago. About 3 months ago, I decided to try and tackle the CPAP again and began wearing my mask nightly. I had a "pop up" advertisement show up (on some site) and it was advertising the "new" Dreamwear Full Face Mask. I REALLY liked the idea, so I purchased on and was immediately sold on the mask!

But...I was still not feeling very rested in the morning. (I have never felt rested....). So I stumbled across the Sleepyhead software and decided to download the software and take a look at what was going on. I was AMAZED at all the information and began watching numerous videos on how to interpret the data.

A little history....My Rx was 20. But when I first got on CPAP, I couldn't tolerate that pressure. DME changed the unit to APAP. 8 on the low end, 20 on the high end.

Everything was going fine, but still not feeling rested. The software showed interruptions all through the night, so I decided to change some settings on my Resmed unit. I moved my low end up to 10. Results the next day showed marked improvement. The next night, I adjusted the low end to 11. The best sleep I've ever had! No interruptions for 5 hours! I felt GREAT the next day! During those hours where I had interruptions, it was showing a major mask leak (for like 30 minutes at a time).

So last night I tightened up the mask just a bit to prevent leakage, and had a horrible night! I looked at the data this morning and I had colors all over the board! Hardly any "good" sleep. Feel worthless. Tired, headache...just awful. So here I am on this site.

I believe I've found that my low end should be higher, but my mask can't tolerate that pressure without leaking.

I LOVE the mask, but can't stop the leak!

Now that I've had some success, I want to fix this issue and feel like I did yesterday! Any help or suggestions?

Hi Robbiescd, it's shocking how close my story is to yours, fed up with the so call sleep specialist, too matters into my own hand, watch tons of video, read numerous articles, and try tweaking on every night, and downloaded SleepyHead to read the recorded data.

I also use the Dreawear full face mask, and yes, i have to tighten it quite a bit, and that does change your settings. and it's yes, this mask is the best mask i had so far.

Somethings that made things better, as per Jason's videos, i got rid of EPR, and though i tried narrow my pressure range, I'm presently trying fixed pressure. Notice 9.6 is really bad idea, headache during waking, so for 3 nights, it seem to be coming closer to a better setting, 8.2.

I will also try going back to a narrower range of pressure. I already know 10-11 is my upper limit, and also notice the lowest seems to dip at around 7-8. These are trial and errors I've initally worked out using my auto cpap. Basically I now have to compare whether fixed pressure or range pressure is more suited for me

Where do you find the leaks come from?

I use the Dreamwear ffm (which I have modified slightly) and use it at 14 cmh2o with a beard.

I don’t have any great advice except to say for me it was successful. I find that you do need to tighten it based on your experience. When I tighten I use a paper clip on the straps to show what an extra 1/8th inch tightening on either side is, so I’m quite deliberate about making incremental changes.

Also for me, I found the large mask cushion worked better than medium, even tho the medium was recommended by the sizing guide. I got one of the fit packs with all of the cushion sizes which helped.

I started at 8 cmh2o and for me, every +2 cmh2o was a definite new challenge in controlling leaks. So I started testing at the pressure i expect to be at, not the lowest you start at. I now start at 14 cmh2o.

Good luck

I'm not even sure where the leak is coming from, otherwise, it's been lot better since i've been adjust the velcro, It seems to be a very fine increments between too tight and too relax fit. and I barely have facial hair.

Last night, for some strange reason, this is only the second time that this happened, where one of the lower magnet came off. Of course the machine ramped to the maximum pressure, eventually waking me up.

But i do find after almost over a month and a half use, I swear the plastic tube that connects to the top, is stretched a bit. I could be wrong. I mean its not a fabric strap, it's a soft plastic tubing that connects the mouth piece to the top where you would connect to the main airway

Does anyone else have problems with this mask leaking out the side? It sounds like I sat on a whoopee cushion!

My rep said to wash face and wipe the mask with a wet cloth. I don't see how that will help.

And don't use moisturizer. Riiight. A 58 year old woman NOT using moisturizer? She's kidding right?

I have to wash my face and cushion before bed or I get tons of leaks. Face oil (or lotion) makes it much more likely that I get leaks, which wake me up and drive me crazy.

I use moisturizer in the morning but at night there is nothing between me and the cushion. I'm about to try out remzzzs. That might allow me to keep face lotion on and still not have leaks. That would be great.

I fixed the Dreamwear FFM leak issue by throwing mine in the garbage.

RioBrewster, my mask makes the same whoppee cushion sounnd too.

This is the third time, I've tight the top velcro bands, works great for only a week, and it's back to leaking. It's like the plastic tubing of this mask is stretching no matter how many times I've tighten it. I'm going to try tighten the bottom velcro band a bit tonight, just to see if there's any help.

I really like this FFM, it's been my favorite because it's not clasutrophobic, but getting really frustrated.

The mask is a piece of s**t, I'm sorry to say. Sounds like they haven't fixed any about it either. Endless fiddling. Like if you get it in *just* the right spot it'll maybe work for a night. No mask should be that hard to use.

You're wasting your time and you'll get stressed out about it before you go to sleep. Put it in the trash.

Sleeeebapnea, can I asked what's the brand you use?

I still have a previous Fisher & Paykel Simplus full face mask, it was popular when it came out 5 years ago

It's still popular...I switched from Quattro to Simplus over a year ago. I am still using the same mask. I changed the cushion once. I boiled the original cushion and am keeping it as a back up. I am on Medicare and can get a new mask every 3 months, but that is such a waste. I don't believe in taking advantage of insurance when it's not necessary.

lol, I'm still shock in the United States, you can replace mask every few months, what about replacing the machine, how long would you have to wait?

For me, in Canada, it's every 2 years for the mask, but it's every 5 years for the machine. i haven't looked into parts, like the tube.

I personnally fixed the issue by using a bigger size than the one recommended. According to the guide I should be an M. I had a lots of leaks and mask felt unconfortable. I switch to an L and all the problems were gone, it became my best mask ever.
