Brand-new to the forum. I was referred for a sleep study in October of last year, had the first study in December, a titration study in March, and still waiting on equipment in April. This process is taking way too long. I call DME and they tell me they're waiting on a response from insurance. When I call insurance, they have no information as to timing or cost. Don't call us, we'll call you when we're ready. I've been ready to get started forever but still waiting and getting more and more impatient.

There is a serious shortage of CPAP machines at present, due to a couple of factors: 1) Philips have had to recall millions of machines worldwide. 2) Because of the Philips recall every other machine is suddenly in short supply. 3) During the first phase of the pandemic, manufacturers were putting more resources into hospital-grade ventilators, so fewer CPAPs were being made. 4) The ongoing semiconductor shortages and supply-chain issues are causing further delays.

Add to all this the fact that insurers seem to be moving slower than ever, from what I have read. Yes it's unacceptable, but there is no easy way around it. A lot of people seem to be getting out of the insurance system and buying machines online - I don't know if that's an option for you.

Whatever the outcome, try to ensure you get a Resmed machine. They are the market leader for a reason. If you have plain vanilla obstructive sleep apnea, then the Airsense 10 Autoset or "Autoset for Her" are good options along with the Airsense 11 Autoset. The 11 has just recently come on the market but seems pretty good. The 10 is a tried and proven machine.
