Post subject:  Aerophagia when sleeping on side

Currently, I can sleep on my back with a small amount of air swallowing. However, once I turn to my side, i swallow very large amounts of air. I've tried tucking in my chin when i sleep on my side but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

You may want to try using a wedge to elevate your upper body as well as remain on your back. This should be a temporary setup (4-6 weeks).

For me, it's the angle of my head that determines whether I get gastric insufflation or aerophagia. If I sleep on my side, unless I use enough pillows, the top of my head tends to drop and the air shoots into my stomach. Then i wake up in pain. Unless my head is well supported, I get gastric insufflation/aerophagia. As Jason suggested, propping yourself with enough pillows to keep the top of your head at a slight upward angle should be enough.
